Football Kickoff Time Zones: A Guide With Worked Examples

Start with an unambiguous timestamp

A time such as 20:00 is incomplete without its date and time zone. A fixture feed may provide UTC, while a league website may display stadium time or your browser's local time. Before doing arithmetic, establish which one you are reading. My Player Schedule displays kickoff dates and times using the device's configured time zone.

Worked example: crossing midnight

For an illustrative kickoff at 20:00 UTC on October 14, adding an offset of UTC+05:45 gives 01:45 on October 15. The match belongs to the next local calendar day. This arithmetic example is not a real match announcement. If the tracker already shows 01:45 in your local zone, do not add the offset again.

Why fixed offsets can fail

The IANA database records civil time-zone rules, including changes to daylight-saving rules and UTC offsets. A location's offset is not necessarily constant throughout the year. Your browser and operating system receive time-zone updates through their software vendors; keeping them updated helps avoid outdated conversions.

Troubleshoot a disagreement

• Check your device's time-zone setting and clock.
• Compare the full date, not just the hour.
• Check whether the other site is displaying UTC, venue time or local time.
• Refresh after a postponement and confirm with the organizer.

The weekly view uses Monday through Sunday in your device's zone. A late Sunday match in Europe can therefore appear on Monday for an Asian viewer. Switching to the following week is the appropriate comparison, not assuming the fixture has disappeared.
